It doesn’t cost much and lets you chart accurately so based on that alone this is worth buying.
It doesn’t cost much and lets you chart accurately so based on that alone this is worth buying.~~~Some people on here have complained that it takes too long to take your temp. I totally dissagree. It is a few minutes, maybe 5 minutes max and that is only if your temp. is at its highest which takes longer. My Dr said to keep the thermometer under the tongue for at least 2 minutes so if this was any quicker I wouldn’t feel comfortable that it was accurate.

*The memory recall you have to hold down the hard to push button pretty hard and the temp only lasts there seconds before dissapearing, BUT you can turn it off then on and do the recall again if you miss it the first time.
I take my temp in the dark so the beep on is great and I am always half asleep or fall back asleep with it in my mouth so the beep when finished is great then I can turn it off and get another beep. And since I am always half asleep, I would never remember my temp if it were backlit anyhow. I ususally wait till I get home from work to recall my temp.
****For anyone TTC, you cannot rely on taking your temps alone to know when you are fertile. Most Women probably already know that but I had no clue till a couple months ago when I read the book-
“Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health”, I recommmend it to every Woman, especially if you are trying to get pregnant.

Within a month of using this, the beeps started sounding sickly and it seems to behave unreliably. It is now dead – it just show a tiny little icon that I think indicates the battery is low. That’s pretty lame to come with such a low battery. It is also tricky to get the temperature to recall, i.e., if you fail to hold the button down just right to get it to show you the last temp it recorded, it might whisk right past that screen too quickly and clear the memory – seems you only get one shot at the temp recall! I’m happier with my Walgreen’s digital and writing down or really making the effort to remember what it says.

I originally thought the ‘mercury’ in this thermometer was impossible to shake down, and was ready to send it back and buy a digital one. After speaking with a very nice man at the manufacturer, he suggested I tap the thermometer down onto a post-it note pad at a 90 degree angle (holding it as if I was throwing a dart into the pad) and see if that helped. Still no luck.…then I realized the blue line I was seeing was a permanent mark on the glass, and the ‘mercury’ inside was actually silver, and not even registering a temperature. Doh!
After recognizing that it was my own idiocy that was making it “not work,” I just sat here and took my temp orally (not a true basal temperature, but just to test it out) and got a reading just fine. The temperature is a LOT easier to read with the magnifying case, so definitely use that. It requires a little rocking back and forth to get the line to appear clearly, but the numerical markings are large and easy to read.
Now, the moment of truth: I attempted shaking it down, and had it completely down with about fifteen easy shakes. Definitely not the problem I thought it was!
So far, so good. I’ll be giving this a tentative four stars, and may come back and change that after I use it for a while and either love it or hate it. I know it’s going to be a bit of a pain to read the thermometer in the dark, wait five minutes for it to register, and so on, but those are things I accepted when I bought it in the first place. As of right now, I think I can recommend this to others on the condition they understand it’s NOT a digital thermometer and therefore isn’t going to be as convenient!

I have been using this device for 1 full cycle and overall I like the product. The alarm feature is very nice and convenient to ensure that you are testing at the same time every morning (which is important when charting). It would be nice if there was a backlight on the screen but this is not a huge issue since all the temps are stored. The biggest negative about the device is how long it takes to record the temperature – somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes usually. It’s a little bit heavy and to lay there waiting for what seems like forever is a little frustrating. The monitor is good about showing what phase of your cycle you are in and calculating your personal coverline based on your temperatures, but to get the clearest picture of how your temperatures fluctuate, you really need to put the temperatures on a chart. I called to ask about the software to plug this into the computer and download the temps but the company told me it was very expensive (hundreds of $$s) and that you don’t need it. That was a little frustrating but I found a great website online that will create a perfect chart (and analyze it) for you simply by inputting the data from the monitor ( [....]). Since the monitor stores all the data you need for 6 months, charting is quick and easy to do whenever you have time (you don’t have to worry about inputting it every single day). Overall, I recommend the BBT method and this particular themometer. It is a little pricey but way less expensive than the ovulation tests and other monitors that require testing sticks, etc. If you use this for 2 months, it will be cheaper than most other products out there.
