Predicting the best days to get pregnant isn’t as hard as you think. Let me guide you on the signs that you need to watch for and some methods that you need to get accustomed to using so you will be able to know the days when you ovulate.

The most important and the very first thing that you need to know is how long our cycle lasts and how many days are in that cycle. Then classify whether you have a regular or an irregular/unpredictable cycle. For people whose cycle lasts for 28 days, the ovulation day can be predicted by dividing it by two, therefore it is on the 14th day.  For example your cycle started on the 4th day of the month, count 14 days from your day 1 (4th of the month).

Now predicting the ovulation days for women with irregular cycle can be more challenging, but it’s not impossible to calculate.  Follow the steps listed below:

First, record your cycle for 7-8 months. Now remember, do not skip. Record it consistently in order to get a more accurate result.
Next, take note of your shortest and longest cycle.  Let’s say that you started recording your cycle on the month of January until August. Your shortest cycle was on the month of March, which was only 26 days. The longest cycle you’ve ever had was 30 days (July).  Take note of these.
Third, Subtract 18 from your shortest cycle and 11 from your longest cycle. Referencing from the values above, you will get 8 and 19, respectively.

On your next period you should do this. Count 8 and 19 days from the first day of your menstruation. The days within 8th and 19th day are your unsafe days. Therefore, if you want to conceive, these are the best days to get pregnant.

To narrow down the days of ovulation, use the method above together with looking out for ovulation signs.  Listed below are some of the major signs of ovulation:

  1. Breast Tenderness – a major complaint among wowmen as well as slight swelling and pain
  2. Mood swings
  3. Increase in appetite
  4. Increase in cervical discharge that has also changed from thick and opaque to thin, slippery and transparent appearance. It has a similar consistency to an egg white.
  5. Basal Body Temperature Spike – If you are checking your BBT you will notice a sudden increase in temperature on the day of ovulation and will remain elevated for a few days. Once ovulation occurs your temperature will come down.
  6. Bloating
  7. Mittelschmerz – slight to moderate pelvic and abdominal cramping and pain
  8. An increase in your sex drive

Knowing when you are ovulating and having a general idea as to the  right days to get pregnant are  isn’t as hard as it looks. It’s actually very easy especially when you’re already familiar with the whole ovulation process and how your body works. For couples who wants to get pregnant, ovulation signs serve as a green light.  On the other hand, to avoid pregnancy the method is still the same—knowing the days when you ovulate, the days when you are most fertile.
